Anyone know anything about fans?
Discussion
I have a Boxster which has two front fans, I believe they're "radiator water fans" not directly for cooling the engine but that's by the by.
One has been spinning up much higher than the other, because one was obviously not turning so the other was compensating. I assuming the one that wasn't turning was knackered but hadn't got around to booking my car in.
Anyway, at the weekend I was poking about and noticed you can put your hand up a vent under the front bumper and stick it in the fan (with the keys out kids!) - both fans seemed to turn freely.
Anyway, since doing this, the last couple of days both fans have been working just fine.
I'm puzzled as the "broken" fan wasn't working for a few months, and I literally just span it with my fingers, it's not as if any force was required.
Maybe it'll go again in which case I'll book it in, guess what I'm asking is, would the force of my fingers manually turning the fan typically be "more" than the force of the motor in the fan trying to spin it up?

1 fan for engine cooling, second for aircon, I guess. Try turning the aircon on full for a couple of minutes.
My (admittedly slightly random) question was really aimed at how likely it would have been that the fan was jammed/blocked as I'm sure I used no force to turn it and it's been fine since. Not very likely to block. They have a compact and well sealed electric motor in the middle that isn't likely to have come to any harm, If there was an obstructing in the blades either the motor would carry on regardless and the blades would snap off/get damaged, or the load on the motor would have got very high and blown the fuse. Either way, it'd be obvious and it probably wouldn't be working now.
I suspect, as somebody above has said, the second fan is for something else like air-con or only works under certain circumstances like excessive engine temperature.
