Anyone bought a new battery

My 6 year old Halfords HB334 battery has died, went to get a new one from Halfords to find their new HB334 is about 30mm too long.

Anyone just bought a new battery for their S3, my existing battery is approx 280x170cm and 670 Amp.

Any Ideas?

There are lots of threads on this like this one from just five threads down the front page as I write.

Alternatively I suggest you use the search facility to find alternatives, instructions on how to do this are here which is actually at the top of the front page as I write this and is the top of the FAQ under the "this forum" tab.

Might seem a bit off hand, but this question seems to be asked about once a fortnight, is well covered across the forum and the answers vary quite considerably as people find what works for them, so doing your own research and making your own decision is vital.

I did not read the threads, before writing this, I was bit annoyed after coming from Halfords, after buying battery, when got home found they had changed manufacturer, then have to got back and get a credit.

I just changed battery too and had the same problem in finding the right sized unit but had a lucky break as my Dad had a spare battery for his 3.0 V6 Renault Grand Espace kicking about. It turned out to be a perfect fit for the tray but is slightly beefier than needed (not a bad thing!) May be a good option for getting the right sized one ordered.

Just fitted an 089 battery myself fits the tray but needs a strap round it.

Two important points to add for fitting a new battery in an S: Make sure it's not too tall as I've seen some S's with stress cracks in the bonnet where it has closed down on battery terminals. Also, replace the battery clamp fitting with a ratchet strap (from a DIY store), so that you get a more secure fitting and can fit a wider range of batteries.

Me too, got a bosch one from the local auto factors 720cca, what a monster. I think it was about £52
