S3 Top Hose

I was inspecting my hoses and noticed that my top hose was actually resting on the Alternator bracket, with the bracket nut, causing an deep impression on the hose, I am cocerned that this will cause a weakness in the hose and will eventually split.

Is this is normal?

This is common, but not normal and it usually gets rubbed by the fan belt rather than the alternator bracket. Some people have fitted protector plates between the belt and the hose others have re-routed the hose. If you have a large groove I would look at either replacing the hose (silicon is the only option I believe if the one you are concerned about is shaped) or shortening it if the hose position will allow to remove the damage.

I wouldnt recommend shortening, it caused me extra problems as the pipe was old & just kept splitting.
I did manage to buy just the top-hose from TVRcarparts in silicone, could give them a try
