My be talking arse but here goes;

At the bottom of the door there is a small proximity switch, on the body side there is a magnet and the door side a sensor. Maybe it may be worth looking at the connections in the door to the switch. I can’t see why it would go out of adjustment but maybe the connectors have corroded or become loose. I remember that this seems to be a common, ish, problem so maybe a look through some previous threads????

Is there a fuse for this????

The early cars had a switch that would get gummed up. Also can happen if the door has not been shut properly so that it the switch is not triggered. Make sure that there is nothing stopping the door from closing fully. Been there. Done that. Felt a prat

Mine did this. There is a little magnet in the door sill on the car body. This must trigger a proximity switch set into the lower part of the door (got to get down low to see it).

Part of the little magnet had broken, so the car didn't 'know' that the door was shut.

Luckily, the broken part was lying on the floor, so I just epoxied it back in place.

You need to make sure that the broken part is set back the right way (N-S polarity wise) but you can hold in place with selotape while you experiment.
