I have realised that I have a real problem being a grumpy bd in the morning. At least one day a week I am grumpy to the point of not being arsed to speak to anyone. At all. For any reason. Caffeine helps but does not solve the problem.

By way of context I wake between 6 - 6-15, leave the house by 6-45 and am at my desk at 7-30. Having done this for 15 years it shouldn't be much of a shock to the system.

So, people of PH. What tips do you have for not being a miserable tt in the morning?

I'd say do some exercise before work but seeing as you get up early anyway, that might not work for you wink

I do cycle to work some mornings which means a 5-30 wake up as it is about 30 miles each way. This undoubtedly helps but realistically is only doable once/twice a week.

I am convinced the my achilles running injury (which I've bored you and others about at length on the running thread) was due in some small part to running early in the morning so I'm very nervous about running before work.

Just accept it - it's the way you are and perfectly normal.

There are so many Germans who are like you that they even have a name for you: Morgenschweiger

It means someone who is silent in the mornings. When I worked in the Fatherland there used to be a few of them in my firm. Everyone just knew to leave them alone until 10-11am, and that they were nice guys as long as you remembered this.

I blame the culture of British chirpiness, and that nauseating 'cheer up - it might never 'appen!' attitude. They can all fk off as far as I'm concerned. It already has.

I'm like that, drove me mad for years when the Mrs would insist on knowing what was wrong when I got up, I need three cups of coffee and an hour for my gob to wake up.

This... definately this...

But in my case it was the chirpiness of a secretary that would set me off... way way too chirpy and happy in the morning for me to stand, after 2 months she knew what days to avoid me on til about 10am or the first coffee which ever came first.

I'm st in a morning.

Doesn't matter what time I get up. I need some "me" time.

A long commute used to help, when that wasn't possible people learnt to ignore me for the first hour or so.

I'm just rather uncommincative for that first however long.

Too tired, get some more sleep, I'm a grumpy (I was going to say in the mornings, but it's most of the time at the moment) I don't sleep well and the mornings I wake after I do have a good night sleep I am full of the joys of spring.

That's a pretty early start already, but have you ever tried getting up earlier and reading a book (specifically not using the computer) or something for 20 minutes before you walk out the door? I find it helps me feel a bit more relaxed and awake. It calms the mad 30 minute rush from wake to out the door.

I like to wake up earlier than I need to be, then give myself that "extra" half hour. I'm always jolly when I get up, if incredibly slow (at least pre-shower). You could punch me in the face and I wouldn't get annoyed, I'm always chilled in the morning (unless I'm late for whatever it is I'm supposed to be doing)

I believe some people are either up with the larks or night owls. I am an owl as am best in the evening and just want to be left alone in the morning. My Mum sums it up right when she says to people just leave her alone and she will come round. I am not grumpy but just want to be quiet first thing in the morning.
Wish I was one of those people who spring out of bed all happy and bouncy but it`s just never going to happen.

I've always had the same thing, I simply cannot do mornings. My shifts vary but when I have to get up at 6:30 or 7am it the usual "God I hate my stupid job, should just quit, don't know why I bother" routine. I get everything ready the night before so I can pretty much get up and go straight to work, which means maximum sleeping time. By the time I get to work I'm usually feeling a bit better (or at least until I get my first moronic customer of the day)
