A mate of mine is looking into getting a bit more out of his 330d. He found the Diesel Box linked below, which seems to give good results, I just wondered what the other options are.

Thanks

I have said this to him, but he is not interested in a remap as the car is under warranty and he doesn't want the hassle of having to get it put back to standard should the car need to go to BMW at any point.

Tuning boxes are not as good as a proper remap... With a remap it probably won't need a dealer visit, with a box it probably will.

And all tuning boxes leave error codes on the car that shout "I have been mapped!!"

Excuse me?

Remaps leave traces that can be found, usually the date the software was uploaded. Tuning boxes plug into the fuel rail (and/or boost sensor and/or crank sensor) but leave nothing other than fingerprints...

Yes, dealers can check how many times a map has been flashed onto an ECU. If you have two many showinmg on your car they can and will invalidate your warranty.

No sure about tuning boxes.

Believe me, the error codes left around the car after a tuning box has been on are pages long.

I had a proceed on my 335i and that left a massive trail.

Had a Spider tuning box on my 120d and that left exactly the same trail.

Had a p-tronic on my 320d touring and that left exactly the same error codes.

All the codes are to do with over fueling, timing and general extremities on the sensors.

A decent remapper will clear all the codes when they map and then roll back the ecu counter to match what BMW have stored.

The guys at BMW said that they will just ignore these codes, however, with the new system they are using all warranty claims will go via BMW AG and it will no longer be their decision to pass the work.
They also said that the ACS tuning box left the same errors all over the car, so doesn't seem to matter what you spend, they all do it.

I didn't think this was possible.
