I'm leaving my job after 14+ years. I'm putting together an e mail for my leaving do and wondering what the etiquette is. I sort of think I should invite everyone in my immediate dept (20+ people) but at least half of those 20+ I couldnt care either way if they came and there are a couple that I would prefer not to come.

My primary tactic in sorting the wheat from the leaving do chaff is to have it away from the immediate vicinity of the office. The thinking being that people who arent actually bothered wont be arsed to get on a bus for 15 mins to get to the pub.

Any other ideas?

Just invite people you want to come, since you aren't working with the rest any more it doesn't matter if they're offended.

Email everyone:

Hi everyone

As you may or may not know, I'm leaving. We're going for a few beers. It would be great if you could come, but if not then I understand.

Cheers

Berty[...]

Then those that like you will come, those that don't, won't.

Easy really. smile

I thought you were still in school. Why on earth were you bothered about your A level results?

I thought you were going to lie about the results anyway? (see previous thread)

If you'd carried on reading it, you'd have seen what I plan on doing.

+1. Just invite the people you enjoyed working with and those who you want to keep in touch with.

Thats what I was thinking of doing but it seems "bad form".

What bothers you more? Spending the evening with people you don't want to or a few people you don't like thinking you're showing bad form?

So? Unless you don't want to burn your bridges with a few senior staff?

Who cares what they think anyway, you don't like them, they probably don't like you either. Just invite those that you actually want to spend some time with!

You could always not send an email, but stick a poster up on the noticeboard?

That way, you wouldn't feel that you had actually invited people you dislike.
