Need brake upgrade advice...
Discussion
I'm thinking about upgrading the brakes on my S, and was wondering what options are available... especially as [shameless plug] Austec [/shameless plug] keep finding a few horses here and there...
I currently have braided hoses with standard sized discs and greenstuff pads. I'm pretty happy with the feel of the brakes and for "fast road use" they have been fade free and well balanced... the car stops in a straight line without too much rear bias (a concern on the S from what Pete Humphries has posted in the past).
So... if I went for bigger discs, would this upset the balance?
Currently thinking that perhaps I'm best off going for grooved discs and keeping them the same size, but the options that Tower View gives of bigger discs and callipers is tempting... very tempting.
Another option is to go for the grooved discs (do I really need drilled ones?) with bigger callipers...
In otherwords "help"....
I have been looking around as well Podie..

A couple of people suggested this site for parts supply, I'm not sure about the increase in disc size.
Have you spoken to Tower View..?

Thought the S ran Sierra discs, not Granada ones..?
Not spoken to Tower View yet...
EDIT - getting excited yet...?

I changed my discs & pads for the EBC ones (they're the sierra 2.0L ones - not the Granada) form RM Carspares. They're pretty decent IMHO, they stood up to a pounding round Castle Coombe, never noticed any fade. although with them being grooved and dimpled they make an interesting noise under heavy braking
Hope this helps
Although one question - if you were to upgrade the fronts (bigger disca and calipers) what would you need to do to the back (assuming you've got standard drums)?

Ha Ha ... Podie
Fell straight into my trap....of course they are from a Sierra, I just thought I'd link to the Granada to see if you actually looked.....
Yes, I'm getting excited....
Spoke to Classicline...
They said that the upgrade would have no impact on my policy but I would have to declare the gains....
I will follow this with interest as I will probably upgrade my brakes after :-
'AUSTEC PODIE PIGGYBACK TREATMENT'

"M, S & Vixen" p. 37/8 - "S" brake upgrade to RS Turbo 260 diameter discs and callipers which apparently bolt straight on!

Cheers chap. So are the RS Turbo callipers bigger than the Sierra ones?
Mk4 Escort, Mk4 Escort(Mk1 RS Turbo), Feista, Sierra, TVR S3 and early Griffs all have the same brakes 240mm.
Mk4 Escort(Mk2 RS Turbo), ABS equiped Sierra, XR4x4 (they have a different part no and are more expensive but are the same), Griff 500 (and I think Sierra Cossy) all have the same front brakes, disks 260mm and slightly bigger callipers. These are a direct replacement for our standard ones.
The Sierra pads with the ABS senior are cheaper then the XR4x4 without the senior.
I have a pair of Mondao callipiers which look like they should fit and have 260mm disks. They do need a seal kit or could be used in a service exchange. If anyones interested you can have them FOC.

IM USEING HUGE FORD ESCORT COSWORTH 4WD CALIPERS WITH 283mm SIERRA COSWORTH 2WD DISCS. THESE ARE STRAIGHT SWAP. TO FIT RS TURBO CALIPERS ONTO AN S YOU WILL NEED TO SWAP THEM LEFT TO RIGHT AS THE RS CALIPERS ARE LEADING IN POSITION AND THE SIERRA ARE TRAILING, SO THE BLEED NIPLES WILL BE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CALIPER FOR EASIER BLEEDING. THE CALIPERS CAN BE PICKED UP FROM
