Might be a stupid question?

Apart from upgrades are all Griff 500s 5 litre.
The reason I ask is I have an early 1993 griff 500 and on the V5 is has 4280cc I am sure I read somewhere there were 2 engine sizes or is V5 wrong.Sorry if this is a dumb question

I have a 430, there are a few of us 'pre-cat' enthusiasts about.

You can tell your engine size by the engine number. I can't remember how now but I'll get back to you

If it's a 500 then is should be 4997 on the V5, the engine number should give you a clue as to what it is.
4.3 engines were fitted in pre-cats and are non-serpentine engines so if it's an early 500 it could be a mistake.

There are pre-serp 500 engines, IIRC the very early ones had 430 engine numbers for some reason but don't recall that extending to the registration docs?

There's also at least one pre cat 500. I guess that if the V5/car is genuine then it's a type approval dodge - TVR were quite creative...

I have the handbooks for 2 4.3 Pre-cats here and both have engine numbers which begin 47A43xxxx
The 43 is the engine size as I said earlier.
Do you know your engine number?

Thanks for help my engine number is 47A50xxxxx so I guess this makes it 5 litre. Question is do I get V5 corrected or leave as is I wonder if it would affect tax?

I think I would try and get the V5 corrected as mismatching info may cause you other issues, particularly if you wanted to sell.

It shouldn't affect your tax, all pre 2001 cars over 1.5ltrs are capped at £205/yr.

My OH had a 1993 Griff 500 and according to the TVR engine makers down in Brum nearly all of that era were listed as 4280 (4.3's) - I called and confirmed what the PO had got written down on a tatty fax - we insured the car as a 500 so no worries.

OP, your's isn't a Chianti Starmist per chance?

My old Cerb 4.5 had 4.2 on the V5. It came down to the owner ordering a 4.2 and then changing his mind later to the 4.5 and tvr didn't change the paperwork.
I had the V5 changed without a problem.
Could be the same issue here!

Get the log book changed it really isnt that hard or difficult ,, If you ever try to claim on your insurance it will cause you huge amount of trouble...
