Any PH'ers have a wife/girlfriend who is into "craft" stuff? You know beads, buttons, embroidery and all that jazz...

I'm in desperate need of some ivory, mother of pearl, bone or glass "beads" or buttons to decorate an Elizabethan dress "we're" having made. Don't ask!

I've looked in all the usual places (eBay, antiques centre(s), etc.) but can't find anything "of the period".
Anyone able to source something or link me to something that might be suitable.

Reward for genuine/successful assistance as it's pretty important.
Thank you and apologies for the unusual subject matter. smile

thinking sideways, why not ask someone who makes theatre costumes?

funnily enough, the first hit for costumier on google brings up these guys who have elizabethan dresses on their homepage.

Probably worth trying the re-enactors fairs/costumiers, you'd certainly get the bone and mop. You'd usually get at least one or two haberdashery stalls at the big fairs

^^^ This I think.

I worked on Marylebone Lane for a while and would marvel at this shop every time I passed it.

Also VV Rouleaux nearby on Marylebone High Street for sumptuous ribbons and trimmings.

I order from these two sites, both usually very quick delivery:
www.justbeads.co.uk Tel 01772 978029
http://globaholic.com

I have a load of beads (hobby is making earrings) but I can't get to them at the moment as house is in a state with building work - sorry.

As well as those two websites I also buy alot of old necklaces from car boot sales and charity shops to cut up for beads. You can pick up some nice vintage beads very cheap this way. I imagine you would be more likely to get old looking pearls, bone etc from those sorts of places, but it obviously takes time to browse - websites are quicker.

Good luck, I hope you find what you are looking for.

Claire

I'm sure I can find something in my stash - not back at the house until the weekend (still packing) but I'll have a look.

Cakes is the main thing, but I do all sorts of crafty stuff. If it involves using your hands, I'm in there wink

In that case, my gutters need cleaning and the ceiling could do with a lick of paint. Oh and there's a couple of tonnes of sand out the front that'll need shifting to the back. I'll drop you a PM biggrin
