Ok, not sure where to go with this, maybe the press, who knows ..

Basic points:

School in “deprived inner city area”, receives funding and allowed to spend huge sums of money on new buildings, classrooms and so on to create one of these so called “schools of excellence”.

Children 10-11 yrs old are commissioned to create artwork that will be used as posters around the school. Artwork is then given to a graphic design company to print as poster boards for hanging up around the new buildings as decoration.

One of the designers receives a phone call from the council person in charge of the project, and DEMANDS that the designer involved CORRECTS THE SPELLING MISTAKES in most of the children’s poor quality work and makes other such alterations. Thus giving the impression the children are more intelligent than they actually are!

I really think this is outrageous! What else have they done prior to manipulate work the children have produced, possibly to receive the funding in the first place or other such ticks in the box they don’t deserve!?

No doubt it's BREEAM at work I'm afraid.

I'm still trying to assess what it costs per project, suffice to say it's a shed load of money for an A4 certificate at the end of the day.

Why is this a problem? Surely anyone with half a brain can see that if the kids are constantly exposed to signs leading them to "boyz toylets" then there will be some confusion?

You want outrageous, how about children caught cheating in exams aren't punished because it will spoil the schools results.

Or substitute teachers who know nothing of the subject they are supposed to teach, and so simply give out the answer booklet along with the exam paper to ensure good results for the college scratchchin

The Daily Wail would make it sound like an issue, seems like common sense to me though.

Kids design something, and to make sure that they all can see how words are supposed to be spelt the sign is corrected.

Are you suggesting that schools manipulate the image, facts, figures and league table position of their schools to further benefit themselves? Surely not, that would be wrong and unprofessional...

A school near me has a reputation of accepting every special needs or imigrant child in because they carry more funding per head than a 'normal' one. Then, when they get the funding, they actually transport the child to a different school under normal funding guises - so they skim the top money.... nice tactic.... and its the child that loses out, as does the tax payer who gets pathetic value for their money on the education system.

The whole obsession with league tables, SATs, image and everything that has been nurtured in the last 12 years is shocking. Then again, I come from the time that you went to the nearest school and if you didnt like it that was it! Not suggesting going back to the old days, but a better balance is needed - and of course they use graphic designers to 'correct' stuff.

The was GCSEs, as I understand get caught cheating in one and the pupil is supposed to be barred from all their other exams. That would spoil the schools A-C score.

The schools are packed full of lefty nutters. What can you expect?

If ever there was a tick box nightmare, then the schools are where it's at. It's no surprise we're where we are really. When ideology preys on the vulnerable and the innocent, this is what it looks like.

You can tell, because it's all money.

Money won't make the kids smart, but ideology can make them stupid.

Of all the things which go on in schools that are nonsensical, ineffectual, immoral and downright corrupt, you choose to get upset over some corrections made to students' display work? Seriously? I'd best not mention some of the fancy footwork us lefty nutters in schools really get up to in order to keep Ofsted off our backs; you'd have a coronary from apoplectic rage.

To be honest, I fail to see why anyone is surprised by the fact that cheating, deception, forgery, manipulation and fabrication are endemic in schools these days. It's an inevitable result of shifting responsibility for success away from the parent/child and onto the teacher/system. This shift was initiated years ago with the Conservatives' introduction of League Tables; was subsequently perpetuated by Labour's target-setting culture (driven by the wonderfully oxymoronic agenda of 'Excellence for All') and now, sadly, is being maintained by Mr Gove with his sorry misconception that even more children should be getting 5 GCSEs, if only they had better teachers.

Don't get me wrong, I know they're not all lefty nutters.

I went for a teaching assistant job. The teacher guy, who would be the boss, was a bit down but his advert described all the things he wanted to do. I had the capacity to help him with those goals. He could see it. He was inspired, I could literally see him change before my eyes during the first interview.

This poor Design Technology teacher.... He said they were trying to merge him with needlework and home economics. They had already taken away his forge.

I went to the second interview, and there was the lefty nanny HR woman.

She too could see the inspiration, and she didn't like it.

For anyone who can bear to stick it out, but not believe the mandatory line.... They must be made of strong stuff.

As for me... Well it was £9K. It would have been £9K more than I have, but then again £9K wouldn't repair my soul.

They will continue to be "Satisfactory" in the eyes of OFSTEAD, but that says more about them than ever it does about me.
