I've a cable socket (Telewest) in my bedroom that the previous owners installed. It has the female f connector (the screw type connector) as it's output.

I don't have a standard aerial socket in the room but would like to watch bog standard freeview in that room using a TV (with built in freeview).

Does this Telewest connection carry the standard aerial tv signal such that I can simply use an F plug to coaxial socket adaptor to allow me to then use the TV's inbuilt freeview tuner to watch freeview?? or does the only signal the cable socket sends need a set top box to decode ?

(I can feel some TV wiring goodness coming on if anyone in Enfield can recommend a bloke with a big ladder and the know-how smile ).

Thanks
Matt

Feared as much! Thanks!!! A chunk of rewiring it is then. Need a man to wire a standard RF connection to living room & bedroom before the TV and surround sound purchase can begin biggrin

My Mother-in-Law is on cable (old Telewest area) and I am sure they used to have a f to UHF connector and just plugged it in to get terrestrial channels.
Has it changed, or am I just talking rubbish?

It used to carry the 5 main analogue channels, maybe it still does, I haven't checked for a while, this will not help with Freeview reception though.

There are a couple of areas where analogue channels are covered, most have been switched off now as they took up a lot of broadcast bandwidth. Anywhere where an analogue signal is still carried will be turned off soon (except perhaps some of the London areas where digital upgrade is required).
