Daily driver, driving
Sub £2k, nerd
over 55-60mpg+, hippy -this can be the Higher MPG as all rush hour motorway (80-85leptons)
air con, biglaugh
Reliable, tank
Good for motorway cruising,phone
capable of 25,000miles a year (2years life span)nerd
Comfortable,coffee
Backlane happy,cloud9
4dr tumbleweed
Hatch/good rear visibility nerd
compact (Golf size or smaller)boxedin

I'm thinking a Golf GT TDI 110hp with arounf 130-160k on the clock seems good for the money

Think you might be pushing the 'reliable' limits with a high mileage Golf. Build quality was never what it seemed.

I think its a case of getting the best from the situation and I will be AA warantying the thing

the potential saving of £3k p.a. is the attraction.

Fair enough - I also made the mistake of buying a Renault circa 2002/03 and it spent 5 out of the 6 months I owned it in the garage being repaired under warranty!
