Saw one of these on a Dutch plate, all it had on the back was ROVER and 4.2. Is this a one off or what?

RV8 has been made in 3.5, 3.9, 4.0, 4.2, 4.5, 5.0, 5.2, 5.3 and 6.0 litre guises.

Stoker kits can also produce 4.3 and 4.8 displacements.

4.2 was sold in classic RR LSE.

All would be pretty much a straight swap.

Don't think Rover built a 4.2 V8 until a bit later with the Range Rover

There were a number of aftermarket conversions. I seem to remember Top Gear building one for a challenge that was a 5.2 (iirc)

My Uncle runs a 4.5 SD1 Vitesse as his daily driver cool

Nope never Top Gear, gee this is like being on a US forum were they thing everything JC is Top Gear and vice versa, lol hehe

It was in one of his vids, he's been releasing them pretty much every Christmas for about 10 years now. This one featured a Rover SD1 with an RPI prepped 5.3 V8 making a claimed 360-380hp. Costing I suspect in the region of £7000-10000 minus labour. Quite funny when in the vid JC had a limit of £5k total for all mods.

VBH put a 2.0 into a Nova and painted it pink!

I suspect rather well. Other parts might have been modded, you wouldn't likely see suspension or brake upgrades unless you knew exactly what you were looking for. Also Rover used to sell the Vitesse which had a 190hp EFI 3.5 RV8 as stock and could clock over 135mph and 0-60mph in 7'ish seconds in the early/mid 80's.

The SD1 was also a very successful touring car dominating until the purpose built Ford RS500 was built to beat them. And it did rather well in Group A rallying.

that said it's still a big car though, although probably a good wheelbase for drifting.

The smaller Triumph TR7 is lighter and more nimble than an SD1 so with the same engine would be quicker still.

Although Hammond did race a lower capacity RPI SDi in the 'RV8 Goodbye' feature, so there's bound to be some confusion.

last of the Vitesse's had twin plenum induction, at the time they were supposed to be 210Bhp (wish I had never sold mine.....)
