My friend lost the keycard to his Dad's CL600 (think it's a 54 plate) so they had been using the spare. This has now given up the ghost, so the car is sitting open but now with a flat battery. They have received a new key but it now needs to be programmed, which requires either the engine running or the ignition on! The battery is in the boot, so in order to charge it, they have to open the boot, therein lies the problem...

Does anyone have any ideas how to get power to open the power assisted boot?? We did try one of the booster packs into the cigarette lighter with no success, failing that we are out of ideas??

Mercedes have told us there is a power point of some sort underneath beside the gearbox tunnel, but we cannot find it, is it just hidden under some type of guard?

Thanks in advance.
Scott

Not familiar with that exact model but on many of them there's a panel in the passenger footwell under the carpet and there's a live terminal in there.

HOWEVER - Merc's have notoriously delicate electrics and I would be very wary of doing this yourself. If the car has MB service history then it'll be covered by Mobilo - call them out (perhaps you just want to say it's got a flat battery wink ) and they should sort it out, but they might charge you.
If you damage things like SAM (signal acquisition modules) while attaching power then it could get *very* expensive.

Thanks. Another thing we considered was Jacking it up, finding the starter motor and putting some power to it? But as you say we don't want to mess with putting power to anything, as it could get expensive.

Do you know what you're doing with cars and electrics?

I'm loath to suggest things as if you start messing about with the power of a battery behind you then you could do untold damage, not to mention exploding the battery!

One route I've seen mentioned to get power in to pop the boot is to remove a rear number light, turn the lights on (sidelight position) and apply power to the number plate light bulb connections.

Can't you get into the boot from inside the car?

Can you not use the key blade you pull from the remote fob to get into the car and pop the bonnet? I thought manufacturers usually put a 12V terminal under the bonnet when a boot mounted battery was fitted. Was like that on a friends old w208 in any case.

Because the keyhole was never used they can't get it cleaned out or whatever to get the key into it! will have a look for the terminal in the bonnet tomorrow. I haven't look at it yet just going from what I've been told so far.

Cheers for the ideas
