£30k car - 6months ownership - what to buy?
Discussion
Okay, (slightly) theoretical question for the PH collect-o-brain.
You're moving out of the country in 6 months for a year.
You have cleared all your debts, sorted someone renting to cover the mortgage etc.
You can muster up £30k to spend on a daily driver that will thrill, entertain, not break down, and most importantly - depreciate as little as possible in the next 6 months.
What do you buy? Preference is for something coupe or convertible-y, decent poke, good noise, the usual.

They all tick most of the boxes, except depreciation. I don't wouldn't want to get raped through the wallet in 6 months time...
I must say, something like this is really appealing...

Depends on you're keeping (for when you get back into the country) or selling (after 6 months). You're moving out of the country in 6 months for a year.

I wouldn't want 30k tied up in a car which was potentially going to be hard to shift in 6 months.
Plus is it daily or a weekend toy?

Corvette or Mustang will hold money well. If moving to Europe would be fine to take with you as LHD. Selling on might take time, but most strong residual cars this is true of as they are niche, hence why they hold money well. You're moving out of the country in 6 months for a year.

The 'not depreciating' requirement seems to be flummoxing a few of you it seems!
As much as I love AMGs, 996 Turbos, Maseratis, Lotuses etc, these will lose money.
A low mileage, manual 993 C2 in a desirable colour is the correct answer.
If you buy well now, a good 996 isn't going to lose much in 6 months. As much as I love AMGs, 996 Turbos, Maseratis, Lotuses etc, these will lose money.

Only thing to bear in mind is that cars generally fetch less around Xmas and convertible prices will usually dip in Winter as well- just something to be aware of.
