2008 I went for the full 3 days. Friday was by far the best day for being able to move around, but the better weather fell on the sunday I believe, plus all the stars and cars were running.
2009 I just went down for the Friday, Planned to hang around for Saturday but my dad forgot his tablets (realised as we were setting up camp) so had to go home. The friday was really busy though, was harsh walking up the hill to the rally course getting jostled from all angles in the heat.
This year, I may have Friday tickets, But I will be in Scotland for a wedding, trying to figure out if its worth driving the length of the country to attend on Sunday. If not I will probably just go along to the Harewood Hillclimb.

I went last year on Friday and Saturday. There was more of a crowd and more current F1 drivers on Saturday. I got much better photos on Friday because of the lack of people and got to get so much closer to the cars in the paddock. I don't think any cars (besides a couple of current F1 cars) went up on Saturday compared to Friday. The F1 cars just crawled up and just revved the crap out of their engines, so not that exciting anyway.
Friday for me, Mrs. SWH and SWH junior (all 1yr of him).
Depends what you're after though; Friday, 7am and lots of photos of the cars with few people about, then a quieter(ish!) day where you can get near the track fairly easlily etc or Saturday where there will be additional/different famous drivers, some slightly different events, and lots more people.... of course, the weather forecast may be the ultimate decider.
