Diff running in?
Discussion
a rear wheel drive diff will always need running in. but since there is no infomation to go by we can only guess (other than spending time searching) what the OP has.
but they dont need hundreds of miles. i usually run the car in gear with the axle off the ground for fifteen minutes so no load. then a gentle drive for 20 minutes or so.
at first diffs (crown wheel and pinion) get very hot until they have been run in for a while. the more miles you do the cooler they run as the teeth bed. even if an axle has been apart and only new bearings fitted i still run them in just to make sure incase there is a slight difference in the meshing.

Brill, thanks. It's my Z4. I'll take it easy for the first hundred miles then, just to be sure but they dont need hundreds of miles. i usually run the car in gear with the axle off the ground for fifteen minutes so no load. then a gentle drive for 20 minutes or so.
