A little advice please...

My Grandmother recently bought a Y-plate 206 from a used car dealer. Not a national company, but you know the sort, a couple of chaps working out of a portacabin.

Anyway, after around 3 weeks, and about 200miles, it breaks down, towed to a garage of her choice and diagnosed with needing a new gearbox and clutch.

The dealer is now arguing, that because we knocked him down £200 off the advertised price, that he will only pay for the garage labour for the repair, and that my Grandmother has to pay for the parts.
('Box and clutch).

I've never really had any experience with dealers of any sorts, and am a little confused that he could come out with this? Can he?

Any advice appreciated, Thanks.

No he can't. Get trading standards involved.

The dealer is trying it on.

Have a read of this:

Show it to the dealer if you have to, and involve trading standards.

If it has only been 3 weeks, I'd say you could actually reject the car outright. The dealer will not like this at all however...
