So Mr Cameron has decided to fly the flag of St George over number 10 during the world cup.

Good idea? Or will we see the lefty apologists bhing on about the exclusion of all other countries, would the Scottish flag be flying had they qualified and England hadn't?

I personally like the idea.

Why not, go for it. I think too many people are quick to attach the chavtastic label and play the partisan and racist cards. Let the gas and air shops in Wales and Scotland bleat. It's what they are good at.

No problem with that.

I was watching the 1990 World Cup Clash between England and the Republic of Ireland and it was interesting to note that Union Flags far outnumbered St George's Flags in the crowd 20 years ago.

I'm Welsh, and I like the Idea. I will also be supporting England whole heartedly throughout the campiagn.

But if England win it, their only allowed to talk about it for the next decade, no longer.

You have to have some rules.

It's a state building isn't it. What's wrong with flying the 'National' flag above a state building?

You see flags flown all over the place in other countries, so why is it such a big problem here?

Good on 'em for showing some support for the national team!

Well done them. The last lot would have needed a focus group to consult anyone that wasn't white and English to ensure they weren't offended and then commission a 25 page health and safety review on the positioning of a flag.

For reasons that I cannot fathom I support the whole World Cup thing more than the Olympics by a country mile! Same as I always try to watch the FA Cup final, don't understand that either. No interest in football at all outside of those events. So I agree that it is quite right to stick the old flag up there. Un-resolved parts of my psyche are a worry!

Nothing to lose, no-one in Wales or Scotland voted for him so he might as well be patriotic.

Would love to have seen Gordo do the same!

England is not a "state" so therefore the flag of St George cannot be referred to as a State Flag and neither can the flag of St Andrew, the Flag of Saint Patrick or that Welsh dragon flag thingy (does it have a proper name?). The only "State Flag" allowed in the UK is the Union Flag.

Having said that, as a sporting gesture supporting the the England Football Team, the Flag of St George is appropriate.

Don't have a problem at all. Had us Scots not been so st then I'm sure there would be space for the St Andrews cross too.

Hey, if beating England in the 2014 world cup and having the Saltire flying over 10 Downing street isn't motivation enough for us then I don't know what is! wink

It might look a tad ghetto. But I think he is making a point rather than trying to associate with the yoff. The last 13 years of the Labour government have been trying to rid us of national identity (I am welsh so it has not been that bad here) It seems like CMD is trying to spread the message that there is nothing wrong with supporting or being proud of your country. You are not a racist if you have a Flag on your house/car or whatever. A good and welcomed change in attitude in my opinion.

The Welsh flag is called "The Red Dragon".
