Hi all,

Can't remember if it was on here or not, but someone posted a really good description on how to cut down a dizzy and secure the shaft to enable the oil pump to be driven as normal. Any ideas?????

I'm not sure its actually been described anywhere, I just made it up as I went along hehe Basically off the top of my head..

Tap the roll pin out that holds the gear at the bottom of the dizzy.
Pull off the rotor, undo the vac advance & ignition amp and remove them.
Undo the 3 screws holding the cover (they get painted/waxed so you have to clean them out to get the screw driver in) and remove it.
You should then be able to withdraw the shaft complete.
Simply chop off the housing (I use a hole saw with the drill piloted in a bit of plastic @40mm IIRC) and grind away any excess.
Remove the counterweights & springs and chop off the shaft just above. You can then shape that baseplate however you want, I leave a small tongue in case you ever want to try a cam phase sense, but anything will do as long as it covers the small plastic seal that sits underneath.
It just then needs a cover making up, 38mm hose and a top does in pinch.
Clean & re-assemble.

Note its also a quick way of making a tool to prime the oil pump if you don't cut the shaft down, all the way but weld a nut onto the small bit of shaft left & grind down the gear nutsnutswink

ETA whoops missed chopping the gear down to prime

As above for chopping it down.

Finally capped mine with the lid of a Colgate toothpaste pump.

Have also done one for my Chevy engine and this time used a 40mm domestic waste pipe inspection blanking cap. Quarter turn and you can check all is well inside.
