....and keep the change for servicing and a sports exhaust biggrin

That'll be off the forecourt quicker than that absurdly cheap 550 that came up a few months ago!

Yeah, talk about bargain. Even if it did need an engine rebuild 6 months later, you'd still prob only(!) spend £12k and then you'd have a car with a brand new engine for the total spend of what you might have paid for 30k miler!

I'm curious, what has your servicing/consumables cost per mile been roughly? i.e. excluding tax, insurance, fuel etc, just the stuff you pay the garage when it goes in.

As much as i think the 456 rocks substantially (took my family on holiday in one across Europe in 06).
If i was in the market to buy a used 60-80k Maserati Granturismo, a used 20-30K F456 would not get a look in. Looks wise and sound wise there is no comparison IMO.

Interesting smile Presumably that was Independent servicing rather than main dealer?!

Absolutely. Wouldn't touch a main dealer. I did once, for a new battery, that was enough. Some 17 year workshop geek spent 1 hour running back and forth to ask work shop manager questions on how to fit rolleyes

Horses for courses! Providing it was a basically sound car, I'd be unable to resist the 456 in your comparison. Stick a sports exhaust on it and job's a good'un thumbup It may not look quite as sharp as the Maser, but I'd get over it by being smug in the knowledge I'd saved £30k even after buying the exhaust and doing a little work on it, and was still driving a Fezza biggrin I do like my money saving deals where possible hehe

I see you have not had much experience with after market systems on a F456. The one i used had a pair of Tubis on it. The car only sounded good at low revs, anything above 4,000rpm sounded very very disappointing indeed. For days i drove through the Swiss and Italian tunnels and it was not at all inspiring frown

A solicitor near me has just passed the 200K in mileage, was at my mum pub a few months back. Used daily for past 10 years, (the length I see the the car about town). Main work done new suspension dampers (worn out), power steering racks (worn out), radiators (worn out and some damage due to them sitting low). Although these models are known for these items in terms of wear and tear.

He had have some welding down on the passenger seal as it corroded and failed a MOT last year. Hands up to him, as he uses it all the time. Its a 1994, he has kept it as its worth nothing to the trade.

Regular serviced at a non ferrari dealer or specialist and keeps going, going and going - Never had a engine problem The garage mainly service BM, Mercs, Audis, Porsches etc.

I guess the type of people who buy 456s tend not to be the ones interested in a sports exhaust thus they don't make particularly good ones for it! hehe Maybe an outfit could make a custom one....might be worth more than the car though wink

I'm interested in a GT, I wouldn't even consider a 456, and I'm not about to start I'm afraid.

Current model, against an old model. I don't think it's right to compare a current car against a 15 year old car. Yes the 456 was significantly nicer in its time, but it's not a comparison I would tend to make as it's very outdated in interior terms, and is a much older car.

Also if one was considering an £80k+ car, although the idea of a very cheap (comparative) 456 might be entertained, it's unlikely to be thought much of. Also a 456 would be older than half of my lifetime, so I guess it just feels like that's what I admired when I was a child, not so much now.

You know what though, a Gran Cabrio, that's nice smile
