C5 Rear Fog Lamp

The rear fog lamp on my car is held on by a small screw thorough a metal plate from the inside, if the screw is over tightened then the lug on the lamp will snap off. This seems to be a bit of a shit design and I am wondering if anyone else has had a problem with the same fault.
I was told its not under guarantee and the cost of the lamp is something like £225.00, so I said I need the lamp and fit it and we worry who will pay after but If I have to pay full price on a one year old car then I will go nuts epically if it’s a design fault.

Are we talking euro lamps here?

One of our fog lamps fell out on the M25 after 10 miles driving home from some other warrantee work. Turned around and dumped it on the service counter and had it replaced under warrantee. Took two goes mind as the first one they sent out for us to fit ourselves arrived broken so we had to take it back the 150 mile round trip for them to do it after another few weeks wait ordering another one. Our car was less than a year old when it happened.

This was pre "no service from Chevrolet" days though so I suggest you get in touch with BM in Manchester as they are the only ones doing warrantee work and the others just seem to say "not covered" or plain “can’t do it”

Did you overtighten it ? If so I can see why they wouldn't replace it under warranty.

Bauer Millett were selling the main C5 rear lamps (2 color) for £50+vat years ago so it seems odd for a single color Euro fog lamp to be a daft price now. I had thought the Euro fog lamps were just stuck on to the rear valance; I've never noticed screws. Before my first MOT I was checking the lights and one fog lamp wasn't working - on investigation it turned out no bulb had ever been fitted! BM do a mail order parts service and their phone number is (was?) 0161 872 0753 or 7744. Good luck.

You could blank the aperture off with some mesh. You only have to have one legally either centrally mounted or on the offside. You could spray the mesh the same colour as the car. OK...maybe not.

I've also got two Ring fog lights I bought at a motor factors for £4 each and they're roughly the same size I think so could be adapted.

I didn’t fit the lamp my self Triss, it was fitted to the car when I bought it, it’s the Euro type and luckily they had one in stock that was admittedly ordered for a accident repair on another car, so it was fitted while I went and got something to eat.
The issue is that this light is a GM Part and the only fixing is one small screw from the inside which you need to get up and under the car to reach, there is no way you can feel how tight you are doing it up and its only a plastic lug so it must be a common fault.
I just need to know if this has happened to anyone else.

Touch wood, not happened to me yet. Your description reminds me of my C3 where most of it was held together by inaccessible plastic lugs and most of them broke at some stage.

The Bastard NS one has done exactly the same, and when I went into American Carriage last time they were threatening to bill me 250 for the OS so I have definitely got to write to GM, anyone know who is best to write to or an email address to get it sorted?

Sam,
I had the same thing on my vette got the lamp changed because of water in it the day it got replaced it fell out when I told them it was hanging out broken I was told this is not covered under warranty & I bloody work for them!! I spoke to the warranty dept & was told to say water was in the light & that will be replaced foc under warranty when I looked into the price of the light I was told about £115 + vat but this was last year the lights are crap! Talk to bauer millett & say the light has gor water in it & it broke when you took it out to replace it.
