924S 2.5 litre 8 valve Oil Pressure
Discussion
Oil selection can be a factor, naturally. The dinosaur 10W40 won't flow anywhere as well as 15W50 synthetic, for instance. As a matter of fact, Mobil-1 15W50 cold flows better than some dino 5-weights.
This cold flow capability will keep the pressure from being too high when cold, but will also tend to keep the film strenth up when hot.
As for your readings, they seem pretty normal to me. My 944 has 165,000 miles on it, and at hot idle, the needle is straight up, in the center of the gauge, around 2.5, while at cruise, depending on RPM, it is in the 3.5 to 4 range.
I use the Mobil-1 15W50 and it seems to work well in the car. I've tried their 10W30 too.
Your car seems to be right on target.
