So I ordered a Renaultsport Clio 200 back in March. At the time of ordering I was told factory order cars come within 6-8weeks. About 3 days after the order went in I got a call from the dealer saying the car would actually take 12weeks to come.. oh well I though, ho hum.

So here I am merrily waiting for my new car, reading up on the Renaultsport forums etc.. 8 weeks pass, dealer phones me up again and drops the bombshell- car will actually take 23 weeks to arrive.

Whats worst is that no one, not the dealer, not renault customer services can tell me why there has been a delay. CS are suggesting there are delays on all new 200s. I want to drive this car before our short summer ends and winter decends!!!

Whats the longest people have waited for new cars?

I would wait a long time for a car, but not that long for a Renualt Clio.

Fiat Coupe: When ordered was told it was on a 12-14 week lead time. 28 weeks later I got the car.

10 years.

If it's a free Ferrari 458, with a Focus RS for daily duty.

Oh, and if all petrol costs and maintenance costs were covered for 45 years.

I wouldn't, personally. When I decide to buy a car, I like to be able to drive it home that day.

Me too. I generally look at what's in the showroom or pre-reg with discounts. Can't imagine having to wait.

Christ 23 weeks no way ?

I waited 9 weeks for a Clio in 2001 because I wanted it in black and I was ready to pull the plug on that, as it was 2 weeks, then 3 weeks, then 6 weeks then calls every couple of days trying to find out when it was arriving...

Be better getting something pre reg or nearly new and save yourself a good few quid.

You can get pre reg with the dicounts AND have a factory order wink (6 weeks from order to being on transporter outside your door).

How can it be preregistered from the factory?

Dad waited 7 years for a Morgan, he test drove it when he put down the deposit. When the dealer (Lifes in Southport) called to arrange the build spec we went back and he went for another drive. Sadly his back and knees had deteriorated so much that he wasn't practically able to get in or out.

Gutted frown

That was for a life-time dream, not sure about waiting anything more than a month or two for a regular car

It's pre registered by the dealer. This is what i did, factory order to the spec i wanted, registered then in my name 4 weeks later. Total saving £7K.

No trade in involved. I realise its 'just' a clio.. but I simply cannot find another one in the spec I want. I've also decided its the car for me at this point in time.. I think its a great blend of practicality and driving entertainment.

I don't understand. Pre-regs are cheap because they're worth less because the dealer had to pre-register them in order to meet their sales targets. Why would they preregister an ordered car? sounds like a gimmick.

ETA: Or do you mean you ordered it in late december and the dealer registered it before it was made in order to meet the year's sales targets? Is it even legal to register a car before it's built?

I understand that for people like me to buy used cars, i need people like you to buy new cars.

But i really cant see the point in it, you have to wait for it, then you have to drive it like a wuss for 1000 miles or whatever. And it costs a packet more.

Plus nowaday half of these new cars havent come straight from the factory, they've been sat at avonmouth in bristol for 6months!!!

So to answer your question id wait about a week!

Yeah I used to think like that too. This will be the first new car i've ever had. Sometimes it can make sense, Renault are offering 0% finance over 3 years- so to have a fun car that I can thrash down b-roads for 3 years for a known price is attractive.

Personally I reckon running it in will be fun, a first experience- never done it before. Plus I should think i'll get the running in period over with in about 2 evenings. :-D

Having said that, having to wait so long is taking a little of the shine off things.

It isn't registered before it is built, why do they do it? Fleet sales wink Visit broker on Internet, spec car, pay £500. Car arrives at dealer & is registered to fleet buyer, car goes straight to customer. 4 weeks later log book arrives and can be then changed to your name. No gimmick, i have the car & paper work to prove that!!
