why are new cars fitted with rear lights that a: can not be seen working easily in the sunshine e.g vw golf or/and, b: point to the sky e.g new shape ford focus and nissan note? very handy for helicopters to see but not for everyone else.

For a start their not new, have a look at a 1996 Punto. Also focus lights don't point at the sky, the angle normal to the lights may point at the sky but the lights within the units shine within the cone angle specified by the regulators. Idiot

I am the only person on earth who thinks cars looked better with separate orange coloured indicators, so i feel your pain.

Having said that, you've come to wrong shop for validation. You'll always be an outsider here. They like shiny new things. No respect for the old traditions.

Which is odd, considering it's an internet forum.

Well it is a stupid comment because the lights don't point at the 'sky', they may look like they point above the horizontal, but they are heavily regulated and have to shine within a tightly regulated cone angle.

Its not like they're on the roof pointing at the sky ffs. A classic case of people not thinking before they open their mouth.

Actually the Stupid Comments Index is pretty high on this thread. Probably 98th percentile.

A valid point, not so much skywards but poor design when in bright daylight
often not easy to see indicator in strong sunlight untill very close esp on roundabouts.

Take no notice of some people on here, many spend far too much much time
bashing the bishop .....

The Golf one is a good call, I'm very conscious of MkV indicators requiring you to pay close attention, particularly when braking.

glad someone agrees. i thought everyone on here was serious. perhaps syncro has a beard or watches cricket on tv. iirc punto lights had coloured lenses im on about the new lights which are clear and reflect the sunlight. you cant see bugger all.

Agreed also. Crap, can't see the indicator when the brake lights are on, especially in bright sunlight.

Passat lights are useless in sunlight.

Also the current model Civics have useless lighting. The plastic covering reflects everything, leaving the tiny outer brakelight invisible, and the bigger inner one is much dimmer leaving it difficult to see.
