Playing badminton last night and following a smash my racket vibrated massively and on further inspection I have noticed a sizeable crack on the head of the racket.

The racket is a Carlton Isoblade graphite, which I really enjoy playing with as it suits my style of play perfectly.

So my question is, how long before it snaps and I have to get a new one, or should i replace now, possibly with a newer carbon alternative?

Thanks in advance.

Replace it now. String tension will have suffered and you certainly won't be able to get it restrung.

It's only a matter of time until the head goes completely (well depending on standard of play/power) so I would think about replacing it.

I'm a very attacking player meaning that I smash at every oppotunity with a fair bit of force.

The good thing with this racket is that you can smash the shuttle hard, but still retain control to do some gentler shots....oh well best look for a new one then frown.

Any suggestions?

In my junior years, I was on terms with Inflight for a while, had a number of Yonex, Forza and Carlton rackets - even now I still sometimes play with my old Inflight rackets if pushed BUT I keep going back to this...

As far as I know, there isn't a lighter racket. I can generate a lot of power but it's the manoueverability that makes this one special IMO.

Doesn't matter which racket I try, I keep coming back to it.

Don't pay that for it though, I can have it delivered to you for much less (or any Ashaway stuff) if you decided to buy some.

My advice is find a proper sports shop, which specialises in rackets, they will generally loan you rackets to have a hit with prior to actually buying it.

If you don't mind, can I get a price for that Ashaway racket, I have looked at that racket before, but was put off by the price.

£70 is a bit much, as I only play once or twice a week.

I've looked seriously at a either a Carlton Fireblade Iso S-Lite, which is a nano-pulse carbon racket or the Yonex Isometric Alpha, which is grpahite.

The weights are the same and they both have the Iso head, which is important to my game now, thoughts?

ETA - The Carlton is £40 and the Yonex £30.
