Listening to the BBC radio news at around 4am today, they said it was Winnie Mandela driving the car that crashed and killed his Great Granddaughter, and that she, Winnie, was uninjured. By this morning, the story now says an unnamed (male) relative was driving and will be charged with drink driving. Cock up or cover up?

It wouldn't be the first death of a child that she has been involved in.

A bit OT but I find the media coverage of this world cup so patronising to SA.

It's all 'haven't they come so far since Apartied' (like they can't quite believe blacks can run a country), 'rainbow nation' this and that.

They talk to blacks with trumpets like they are children.

It's like a pat on the back to the dumb kid who tries hard at school.

Let's be honest the current lot who are in charge are all for a Zimbabwe style take over.

Have you not noticed all the comments about the whites owning the economy.

Still racist, just the colour of skin has changed, don't know what will happen in the long run.

Yes, that's all that's been on the news from the BBC - they seem to be treating the death with the same reverence as Diana's – I never knew she existed until the ‘carpet bombing’ coverage.

Having said that, condolences.

ETA - Imagine what it'll be like when Mandela himself passes away - coverage will go nuclear!

Yeah you have those militant demagogues in the ANC.

I can see it going downhill.

White liberal do-gooders though want to believe the blacks were liberated because of their pressure, and that even though the blacks are doing well now (for blacks anyway) they could never have been liberated on their own.

I grew up in the Uk, where it is pretty much accepted coloura nd sex means fk all.

Shame the rest of the world haven't come to that conclusion, and it seems quite a few uneducated people in the UK. Such as Hariet Harmann.

Tits up most likely, like other countries in the region.

Quite, I'm sure she'll find a use for the four used tyres and the petrol left in the tank.

My condolences to the Mandela family, they have had a rough time in the last three years, was not well reported but another of Mandela's grandchildren drowned in 2008, family member also died from AIDS and now this.

Whatever your feelings on Winnie, the ANC or South African politics, it is still harsh on any family.

The media coverage of South Africa and Mandela in general has always been covered under a halo of political correctness so this latest World Cup reporting is no different.

Time to drop the colonial guilt and treat South Africa as we do any other nation.

As for this particular story - must be heartbreaking for the Mandela family during what should have been a joyful and historical month for them. From their point of view, who the hell gives a st about football now after losing such a young family member.
