Hubba hubba, you'll have fun with this lens, love mine cloud9

Know what you mean about the mrs not paying any interest, mine is exactly the same. She still doesn't know about the 9 lenses in my collection, not that I hide anything from her smile

Her shoes on the other hand...

Doh!

Here's a few just to give an idea of the size of the lens. The 7D isn't a small camera by any standards but I put the lens on and just thought "Jesus!".

No, you thought 'Wa-hay!'. Then you realised the lens hood would make it look even bigger, stuck it on and went 'Phwoar, look at that bd!!'

I think its wife’s law, you have to divide any purchase by two. I’m quite sure they do the same to us though laugh

7D & 70-200f2.8 is a fair ol lump.. you'll love it tho.

Just loaded up my new lowepro flipside 400aw with gear and its not too heavy.

Tho holding the 7D and 120-300f2.8 all day was a strain!

How was the 120-300 f2.8? Sharp enough on your 7D?
Its always been on my got-to-buy-someday list.

Don't suppose you tried it with a 1.4x converter?

Cheers.

Intresting... It wasnt pin sharp at 300/2.8 but it was close, very sharp stopped down a touch. Colours , bokeh and lens flare were all top. AF seemed very fast and (with slight MA) accurate.

Dont have a 1.4 TC, tried it with a 2.0 and honestly it was unusable. Even on a tripod, stopped down, timed shots etc I couldnt recomend it for that.

I suspect with a 1.4tc it'll be soft at f4 unless you get a great one, but good to great at f5.6

Overall I liked it a lot but I'd want one a touch sharper at 300/2.8, which is hugely adictive, but not sure I'd take it out the door too often due to its size and weight.

Nah stick it in the backpack and you hardly notice once it's on. I also have a 100-400 in there as well smile

Now you have the grip, can I suggest you look at getting the Canon hand strap, you will find it makes handling that beast a lot easier, I have one on my 1D and 35-350L and can carry it comfortable on the handstrap for hours.
