A shell garage near me puts its price of petrol up every night in time with the closing of a morrisons a few miles away. During the day, the price is the same, at night shell increases it by 1p a litre! May just be a coincidence....?

That is all

Maybe they pay the guys on night shift a penny extra per hour?

More illegal perhaps than coincidence? If this is right I'd report it to trading standards.
Why is that illegal?

It's not. They can change the price every hour if they want. What possible interest will Trading Standards have in a retailer's legitimate pricing policy?

In Denmark they put up the prices by up to 10% in the mornings , it strange because everyone knows this happens but the filling stations are always busy in the mornings

One of the petrol stations I pass on my commute puts it's prices up on a friday, ready for the weekend.

There was one outside RAF Cosford which used to do the same, knowing that all the RAF trainees would be heading home for the weekend.

Supply and demand. This and the fact that a night-worker may have a higher wage than a day-worker.

I'd do it if I had a petrol station.

When you think that they probably have to pay evening staff more, it seems quite reasonable to me.

I doubt they do pay evening staff more (preparing to be corrected by a shell employee) and even if they did i'm sure shell make enough profit to cover it. If it was a small independant (do they even exist any more?) then maybe understandable.

Still seems reasonable to me. If you don't want to pay it, you can always buy petrol during the day. As someone said - supply and demand.

Most Shell places are franchises now operated by a local independent....my nearest one is run by, how shall we say, owners and staff of Indian descent, and is the same, not missing a trick when it comes to fluctuating prices on a day by day basis.

My daily drive runs on LPG and the price of that has reached ridiculous proportions, because it's the only place locally that supplies LPG!

End of the day its just supply and demand, through the day more supplier so prices are more competitive, after hours, less supply so prices can raise.
