There's a few MX5's local to me.. The ones in my price range are quite high mileage, about 90k miles? The cars are around 2001.. So for the age it sounds normal enough..

I've never had a car with that sort of mileage though.. Are they normally reliable with high miles?

How many is too many when it comes to MX5's?

Quite a bit more than that should be OK.

To be honest, there's little to go wrong that can't be very easily fixed. Absolute worst case - the engine blows up (which it won't at 90k). Replacement engine is around £300 - £500, and less than a day to swap over.

At 90k, you're really got nothing to worry about, they're much better than that.

This is not going from my own MX5s I'm afraid, my Mk1 has only done about 55k, and Mrs Maser's Mk2.5 has only done about 30k.

You regularly see high mileage models for sale with no issues.

Is it likely to feel much different to drive though? The only other high mileage car I've driven was an old school of motoring car..

It had well over 100k miles, and it felt horrible.. The gearbox was a mess.

Very much doubt it with a '5.

They take the miles very well indeed.

One of mine is now 21 years old, and shocks aside (which have just been replaced), it still drives perfectly. They really do age very well, with years and mileage.

Only way to find out is to have a go, but I really wouldn't discount a car with 90k, it's really not much at all for one of these.
