Hello i have a question someone can hopefully answer. I recently hit a deer in a works van and there were lots of fluids coming from the engine area. The choices were simple, stay put and wait for recovery and be in the middle of nowhere for ages or drive back and risk the engine seizing.

Well as you can probably guess i chanced it and the temperature on the engine went to max and stayed there for a good 15 minutes and it lost power, lots of it. By the end of the journey home it really was struggling to keep moving.

Its a works van and I'm not too concerned for it but I am curious to how serious the engine trouble will be.

Really? Your boss won't mind that you seized the engine (alomst) solid, deliberately?
Maybe 'Private Pimping' is what the bigger boys will be doing with him in the glasshouse as punishment... this might be wishful thinking though.

lol...If it was overheating why didnt you keep pulling over and turning the engine off and make short hops home...

To answer the question...without a doubt, it's screwed.

Give the OP a break chaps - at least the big bad wolf didn't get him.

Why should he get a break?. He continued to drive after knowing that the engine was overheating due to fluid loss following an accident, spreading coolant and god knows what else on the road for the next motorist to come along and slip in and possibly destroying the engine in the process.

Doesn't really matter who owns the van or pays the bill. Anyone who treats any vehicle like that shouldn't be driving one at all.

Did he even stop to make sure the deer was dead or not left in the middle of the road?.

Oh wait, he doesn't own the deer either.

What a tool!

Someone with that little mechanical sympathy shouldn't be given a driving licence. What other 'risks' would he be willing to take?

You completely missed the sarcasm in my post. The OP said he didn't want to wait in the middle of nowhere, so drove on regardless. I was sarcastically saying give him a break, only my 5 year old son would be scared of a 'big bad wolf' in the middle of nowhere.
