Just seen this in my local free paper. I can understand people falling for some of the scams that are around that might catch you off-guard, but seriously who is simple enough to fall for this?

For every hundred people who think "scam" there will be one person who thinks "Oh, OK then".

This is very helpful thank you, my card is now ready and waiting on the front door. I wrote my pin number on a post it note as well. Hope it helps.

Old people, they seem to believe anything a person on the phone tells them.

Unfortunatly, there are some plain and simple STUPID people in this world.

Every year dozens of people still fall for the "I'm general Wanga Wanga Unkomo Matomo Matomo, and I want to give you 50 million dollars....." scam.

Hard to beleive, but it happens.

There was a story in the local paper last year featuring a woman had her handbag stolen in town, got home later after reporting to police and received a phone call from "the bank" requesting her pin number for security purposes. Silly moo handed over all details and found her account cleared out.

NEVER underestimate the stupidity of people

Stupidity is unfair on the woman. Naivety would be a better description having had your bag/ wallet stolen then you are going to be a little flustered. A good confident conman can give it a go pretending to be your bank. Bear in mind that a lot of banks put all the details of who to ring if your card is lost or stolen on the back of the card, and dealing with a stolen bag or wallet isn't a regular occurrence.

I guess the bottom line is that if these scams didn't work they wouldn't do them.

Much the same as the "I have 20 million USD to pay you" e-mails.

And if that person on the end of the phone is wearing a high vis jacket then they must be official wink

Exactly. As long as there are stupid, gullible people in the world there will be people ready to take advantage of them.
