Could you tell me what is easier to learn, water skiing or wakeboarding as I want to learn one this summer.

I'm a pretty decent snow skier so would that help with water skiing?

OR is wakeboarding a lot easier regardless.

Any pros and cons between the two?

Cheers,
Robin.

Don't know about Wakeboarding but I have Waterskied quite a bit.I've also skied alot.

The two are not really very closeredfacene you're sliding, the other you're being pulled.

You're much more relaxed in the lower body snow skiing and you can control your speed, turns etc.

waterskiing; legs stiff, arms straight and try not to pull otherwise your legs slide forwards

underneath you.Great fun though!

Wake boarding is generally the 'cooler' of the two much in the same way as snowboarding.

You can also achieve a lot more wake boarding with regards to jumping over the wake, spinning and tricks as you improve.

I would recommend wake boarding as it will be more rewarding once you get the hang of it, and 'cause it's just better.

Robin,

Give them both a go, you won't know which one you'll prefer until you try it. I primarily ski with a bunch of boarders. I have boarded in the past, and still give it a go from time to time. It's a lot more relaxing riding the wake at 20mph rather than blatting across it on a slalom ski. My boarding mates have a go on the ski from time to time too.

I'm way out of shape, and my timing/technique is rusty. But I'm smiling, on the inside..

Towards the end of our session, we dig out the wakeskate. We pile all the lads on the back seat to kick up a big wake and surf/ride the wake on 10' line, this is really great fun for boarders/skiers alike.

Have a go and see what you like. Once you're out on the water you can chop and change, and ride/ski whatever you fancy
The alpine skiing will help with an understanding of rolling a ski from edge to edge, but the techniques are very different. There are more similarities in style with wake/snow boarding.

Have fun!

I prefer wakeskating, tricks are so hard to learn but very rewarding once you can land them. It took me a whole day of running off the dock into the water on a cabletow to land my first run, throw board, land, ride away with the skate.
And it hurts less when you fall off!

Waterskiing is very old fashioned now and I rarey see anyone doing it. There's not a huge amount you can do on skis/mono apart from go fast and slalom. With wakeboarding/skating there's a whole world of faceplanting, eye peeling fun to be had!

Doing it all behind a kite in the sea is even more fun, you should try it.

Couple of months in now and having a great time, can pop up behind the boat no worries (on two skis) and about to learn mono. Two weeks time it's wakeboarding time!

Really great fun, wish I'd done it when I was younger.

Wakeboarding is much easier than waterskiing, at least the basic stuff (my level!!)

You only have 1 'ski' to worry about and, due to it's size, is pretty stable.
