Hey I'm fishing around for insurance prices and was hoping you guys could help.

I'm 20 and have been on my mums insurance policy as a named driver for the past couple of years, I will need to start using the car more though soon so I'm looking to get a policy under my own name.

in 2009 I drove onto an unmarked one way street the wrong way, I stopped and whilst stationary, a van drove into me head on. obviously the claim ended up in the third partys favour, with the van driver and passenger claiming £5k each injury compensation from a 5mph crash, they didnt even miss a day off work from their so called 'injuries' and there was only a scuff to the vans bumper but they still managed to claim £700 vehicle damage.

But more to the point, a claim was made under my mums insurance, causing her to lose some of her NCB, when I'm filling in insurance quotes, do I declare that I have made a claim or is it my mum that has to declare a claim on her insurance and I have nothing against my name as it was her policy?
It's a bit confusing and makes alot of difference to insurance quotes for my own policy.

I dont know if that makes sense?

Thanks.

You will have to declare it under your name as you were the driver during the accident if you add your mum to the your policy she WON'T have to put the claim under her name as it will all ready be under your name
, just so your aware if your mum insurers a car in the future but your not on it she will have to put it under her name.
Hope that makes sense! thumbup
