It's an interesting but weird place.

I been twice on business and got varying amounts of free time. It seems very safe so you can wander about without too much worry.

The wheel is good, biggest in the world apparently.
Raffles for a Singapore sling and some nuts (only place you can litter) there is also a curry tiffin room there which is brilliant.

Boat Quay and Clarke quay for bars and restaurants.

Esplanade is another food/entertainment area.

Orchard Road for shopping and China town is also worth a visit.

There are shopping Malls everywhere some specialise (technology) some are general purpose.

Sentosa Island is supposed to be good, but can't vouch for that as I didn't make it.

If you go out for lunch the local food courts are brilliant and cheap. All the local guys I was working with ate there and you have a real choice for little money and good quality.

yes That covers most of the bases.

I'd definitely recommend the local hawker centre food courts. Fantastic and very cheap food in many of them.

Sentosa is quite nice, very much man-made of course but quite entertaining. Look out Fort Siloso on Sentosa and also Fort Canning off Orchard Road, both interesting wartime locations that many tourists miss.

Also Clarke Quay for a couple of drinks on an evening is worth a look.

Go with locals/team for lunch and be brave with the food; it's not what your use to , but it's fabulous.

Clark/Boar Quay for a easy evening meal or try the hawker stalls; cheap and yummy food.

If you have time do the night safari, amazing place.

To be honest if your not into shopping the food is by far the best thing about Singapore.

Use the tube (MRT) to get around, cheap, fast and air-conditioned! Taxis are also good value. For technology get down to Sim Lim Square http://www.simlimsquare.com.sg/ it's floors and floors of technology, prices are okay however they were not great compared to the UK, do the conversion before you buy and haggle!

Funan also good for tech!

Drinking sessions basically go Boat Quay (next to Raffles Place) to Clarke Quay (bit further up the river) to Mohamed Sultain (bottom of Liver Lally Load River Vally Road and finally to St james' Power Station if you are in for a monumental session ... that one will see you leaving in time for work again!

Plenty of other bars in China Town, Club Street and Telok Ayer, all close to CBD

Local food is great, be it street food / hawker centers or smart restaurants - as suggested, follow your local collegues!

I always like to take visiters to the New Asia Bar in the Westinn Stamford Hotel, 70th floor bar, great at sunset and you get all the SIA hosties in there for a quick perve too !!!

loads more to see here too, how much free time you got and what you into?

edit - you are here for 2 weekends so you must try a champagne brunch one Sunday ... freeflow champers and all you can eat for $100 - 150, lasts 4 hours, write off a constructive Monday!

As mentioned earlier, the Night Safari at the Zoo is fantastic. I went on the train and then bus, but got caught out as the last train went earlier than advertised - cue exorbitant 3 quid taxi back to the hotel biggrin

Brewerkz is a good eating drinking place, and brew their own beer.

Just up river from there is a small park where you'll see lots of small powered kites flying around, all with LEDs on - they look like UFOs and are fascinating. Go Fly Kite is the company that sells them - in the same building as Brewerks (or at least they were). I looked at getting one but they are damned expensive!!

I was there the year before the first Singers GP so spent some time trying to work out where the circuit was, which was interesting.

MRT is pretty good, nice and cheap and also air conditioned - cool!

Try food from the hawker markets as well - some of it is really tasty.

Do it. We had one on the morning of the GP the first year it was there. Highly recommended.

Excellent. I am stuck in the Hilton which I hear is very average, (its a conference), but I will do a little touring.

New Asia Bar is in the Swissotel Stamford, never seen the SIA hosties there but certainly seen the BA & Qantas slappers hanging around.

Stereolab is an excellent bar, next to Pan Pacific. Also worth visiting are the bars in Emerald Hill.

Hilton is So So , but perfectly adequate. Also close enough to everything else too!

Ahh dear old Number 5's on Emerald Hill, an old institution that is!!

BTW, there is more than just drinking to be done in Singa, but if you are here for a Conference then that is mostly what you will be doing?

Conference at Suntec? Paulanna Brahuaus directly opposite is not bad, for a cheep nosh up and beers!

People always say about the Night Safari, but in reality it's just a standard zoo...but in the dark so you can't see nearly as much and you get bitten more. You can queue a fair bit for the trams as well. It's a novelty but not actually very good.

The main zoo next door however is excellent and you need a whole day there. Probably the best zoo I've been to.

Bird zoo is worth a trip too.

Each to their own, but I really liked the night zoo. Something about seeing the animals without cages and in what look like moon lit glades was very nice.

Didn't have time for the main zoo, so can't comment on that.
