Looking at 2 different Ferraris. California - the more practical option v 458. As someone moving into the brand from other sposrts cars whats your genral view about waiting time if I put down my deposit on a 458.

I heard St Albans were quoting 2014 delivery on the 458, however I somewhat doubt that.

When the 430 was announced, maranello took a refundable 5k deposit. This led to huge orders, many of which were unfulfilled bringing the quoted waiting time down considerably. I have heard (not confirmed) that the deposit for a 458 is 20k and NON REFUNDABLE, if this is the case it will certainly deter people who are not certain. Also, within 2 years there will be a spider, likely even sooner, which will reduce the wait on a coupe as many opt for a spider. I would think a new customer would put their money down and be "Quoted" 2 years which may well change bearing in mind that production levels will be strong to get as many orders fulfilled prior to the new Mclaren and Gallardo launches. Dont put a deposit down hoping to sell your option at a profit as this is very risky territory indeed.

I've been told California is now under a year, but 458 is nearer 2.5 years.

It seems crazy to me to pay up for a deposit so long before, it's almost worth putting one down for what comes next, or perhaps for a 458 Spider now.

Or the alternative, find one in 2 years time that's close to your specification already ordered.

Not that it helps, but the Zug dealer has a nice red car that could be had today if you were so inclined

I don't see how anyone could wait 2.5 years for their 458, I wouldn't be able to wait 12 weeks!

325-330 chufs I believe, which is list price inc whatever options it has on it.
I'd want the "delete horrible plastic triangle from the dashboard" option

He also has a black car and a red car in the workshop being pdi'd

Funnily enough I have spoken to a dealer, who surprisingly has an interest in geting me into both cars, hence the question to this forum
Dealers solution was to pay £10k over list for a nearly new california, add a 20K deposit for a 458 and wait... At which point I will be told that the 2 year wait on a 458 is now 12m and the california is now worth 15k less than list....
I don't have that money to burn, it has to be one or the other....
Appreciate all the helpful comments to date

If you only want to go with one Ferrari; follow the heart!

Otherwise perhaps a slightly used F430 before a 458 so as not to take a huge depreciation hit?
