Running Without Airbox?

Im hoping to take the Cerb to get re-gassed tommorow - is it OK to take the airbox off at home and drive it a couple of miles to the garage to avoid me having to take it off when I get there?

should be OK for a short run but don't make a habit of it as it will probably be running weak and also it will ingest dust and dirt that coyld scratch the bores.

Why do you need to take off the airbox to have it re-gassed?

It's not in the way of the connections for gas gauges.

That's not a very sensible idea at all, any dust will be sucked in and will ruin the engine

I was under the impression that the airbox would have to come off to re-gas the aircon? Brilliant if not! If it does, it sounds like it'd be worth taking it off once I got there rather than at home. Can anyone confirm the airbox definitely does/doesnt have to come off to regas the aircon?

Leave the air box on. If the place doing the re-gas has quoted you £n to do the job, let them worry about it.

Don't do it if you don't have to. Get them to deal with it, or ask how much they'd charge to collect her on a flat-bed and cover her up.

But wrecking the engine is just a risk, not a certainty. When I was younger I ran an MG Midget for years with open carbs and while everything else went wrong or bang, sometimes dangerously so, I never had issues due to it.

If its just a re-gas the two connections they need are near the compressor at the front of the engine. No need to take anything off? At least that was the case with my 98 4.2 V8...?

You DON'T need to take it off.



edited to add that I'm not 100% sure of the Speed-6 engine layout but you don't need to take it off on the V8 ones.

Post a pic of a Speed-6 engine and we'll confirm.

Not sure if you have done this already so here's what I found out (as I have a Speed6).
You have to remove the 2 engine bay covers, and yes the airbox has to come off for the second. Let me know if you find an easier way to do this!!
