My old Hi Hux is getting a bit on the dull side, so I used some autoglym on it which was ok, but no big improvment. Also tried some Mer, same result with more sweat.

years ago there used to be a Polish that gave you that just washed, wet look shine, does this stuff still exist and if where can I get it from?

I've got some polish which a friend gave me which is kind of like T-cut with a polish in it. This might do the trick for you although it wouldn't be anywhere as easy as a wash on wax. I think it's Turtle Wax who make it.

If getting a wet look finish was as easy as some adverts claim, all the guys who do detailing for a living would be out of a job. Clay bar then Meguires polish and finish with DoDo Juice wax is my minimum to retreiving a good finish.

This sounds a bit posh for my old Hilux Surf, she's a working vehicle, carrying tools, dogs etc, plus towing trailer/caravan.

Me thinks more elbow grease with the polish I've got will do.

If the paint is dull, does it not need a bit of restoration? I'm not sure the clay bar would do this.

Clay bar first definitely. After that, takes your pick - if you've already got the autoglym then use it. I use autoglym on my cars and it is really good stuff, provided that the paint underneath isn't already oxidised. I use Super Resin Polish a few times early in the year as it does remove some of the tarnish. The Extra Gloss Polish stuff is fantastic, but you need a good base under it.

If the paintwork is really dull you need to cut it back before bothering with wax and sealers.

Just elbow grease with a cutting polish is going to be best.. T-Cut (shudders) if it's just a work horse will be fine.

I used Blitz wax and One Grand omega glaze on the Porsche excellent products I'm sure there will be a slightly abrasive cleaner there too

Beware of rest of site though it can seriously deplete wallet because "you'll need one of those"laugh

My choice would be to use Autoglym paint renovator then Super resin then extra gloss.

I have also purchased Greased Lightning Showroom Shine online from

www.livingstonautoparts.co.uk

This is a waterless wash/wax which is great for keeping the car clean between detailed washes.

If you check out their website you can watch videos demonstrating how to use most cleaning products.

firstly you dont say what colour the vehicle is im guessing it could be red as red does oxidize if you dont look after it.it also depends how you have been washing it and what with.
if you contact www.v8valeting.co.uk he will give you sound advice. i would also like to add that the online experience i had buying car parts as well as autoglym products from www.livingstonautoparts.co.uk was fantastic i dont think you will find HD wax any cheaper.

Thanks for the input guys.

As I said before, my Hi Lux Surf is just a workhorse and was looking for a quick shine............will continue with the Autoglym for now.
