I am after the best car that is less than 35 quid to tax and is cheap to run. This will be my daily car. Budget 6-7K and I have a astra to part ex which is worth around 5-6K. Doest matter if petrol or diesel. It will be doing around 20K per year. I intend to look at getting a weekend toy later in the year!

£10000 to save a hundred quid a year on tax? Why not spend half that but pay a bit more in tax?

Wy not go in to ANY high volume car dealership, you'll find sub-10k cars with £35 of free tax. 107, C1, Fiesta, Ibiza, Polo....

(Much as I love the C1) I wouldn't want to be doing 20k a year in any of them.

Is 10k really cheap for a car?

Not in the real world, I don't think.

Depends what you get for it - cheap for an M5, too much for a polo Bluemotion

I did 65k a year in a Phase II Clio 1.9D, basic spec. No turbo. A C1 is a spaceship in comparison.

True, but tbh, if I had 10k to spend on a car, I would be thinking it was a hell of a lot of money.

Maybe I got a little excited. My budget is between 6-7K, I would prefere to buy new. The new aygos come with a 5 year warranty!

Why are you prioritising tax cost over comfort? Would you rather do 20k a year in a Aygo or a 3 Series?

I'd be looking at a 12-18 month old Focus, if I were the OP.

Audi A2 1.4tdi

ok, it's not new but it's 35/year tax, 60mpg average, looks good and goes well. The diesel pulls like a train when on boost.

Can be had for a few k less than you are looking to spend. Keep that money in a pot for your weekend car smile

Spending 10 grand and worrying about tax is fking insane, to be honest.

Why do people get so het up about tax? Once you'd paid MOT, Insurance, etc, it's probably very low down on the list of expenses for the year?

I honestly don't understand, am I being thick?
