Wildcat Builds An Extreme Golf Buggy

New 'street' version of ultimate off-roader has space for your clubs

The first example of a new 'street-spec' version of the outrageous Wildcat off-road racer has left the factory with a spec that includes a custom-built compartment for its new owner's golf clubs.

The £75k-and-up Wildcat 300STR is powered by what its builder Qt Services calls a 'Dakar-spec' version of the 4.0 Rover V8 engine, built from original unused Thor engine blocks by engine supplier ACR. As installed Qt Services claim an output of 255bhp, and 260lb ft of peak torque for this entry-level engine which is good for a 0-60mph time of around six seconds. Maximum speed is usually around 120mph, depending on gearing.

The car pictured not only has the usual Wildcat features, including a fully welded tubular chassis, 4-wheel drive, 5-point harnesses, heavy duty differentials and drive-shafts - but also creature comforts such as air conditioning, bluetooth, iPod dock and stereo hi-fi.

"If you consider that the 300STR is essentially a two-seater, there are a number of options open to you and this first production 300STR has been specified with rear storage for the new owner's golf clubs. We'd love to be there when he rocks up to the clubhouse and parks it next to the Astons and Mercedes!" says the boss of Qt Services, Dave Marsh.

There are three Wildcat variants to choose from - the 300STR pictured here, the 400NSR which is a full competition model designed for hill rallies and tout terrain events and the top spec 500DKR which has the full rally raid package for serious and seasoned competitors. The two top models feature a specially-built 4.0 litre version of Jaguar's previous generation 4.2 litre V8 - with power outputs that start at 285bhp (plus 300lb ft, most of which is available at 1400rpm), or upwards depending largely on the depth of your pockets.

Proper pistonheads vehicle - imagine all the detours one could take when commuting back from work! biggrin

Wonder what second hand prices would be in say 2-3 years time?

Very nice, but WAY WAY too pricey for my pockets. Also you could custom build something similar and more powerful for a fraction of the price and still use either the same or similar components.

My ideal sleeper would be one of these - but with a 110" chassis, a normal Defender hardtop body liberally covered in cack, and less racy wheels.

In fact, pretty much this V

..but with a monster engine and chassis under it! hehe

This easy to do.

Several tuning firms offer -2 suspension drops and uprated shockers, even twin shockers per corner if you want it.

Combine this with some poly bushes and weight saving.

RV8 engine will fit straight it, so something like a cammed and head 4.6 from a p38a should make ~280hp and maybe with a 100 shot of nitrous on top.

Aye, I've watched Mark Evans' series 'A LandRover is born', so I'm sort of familiar with what can be done to a landy. It was a great machine he built, but way to 'pimpin' for my liking. I'd prefer mine to look as if Farmer Giles had just been towing chickens round a field with it. smile

Bowler sold the rights to the wildcat to QT services who now build the wildcat and bowler carries on with the nemesis

And loads of space in the boot for the toolkit and new driveshafts you will need

You could indeed, but only if you didn't factor your own labour cost into the equation.
Something about business having to make money I think hehe

I still wouldn't have one though, air con and radio or not, they're a pain in the arse on the road.

I was confused too, Bowler are making a road legal Nemesis too, although I'd imagine it would cost more than the Wildcat

so was i , looks like the proper bowler is based ona a range rover sport,
http://www.bowler-offroad.com/Nem_2009/Nemesis_EXR...
while this wildcat is based ona landrover defender.
