After a rather unfortunate incident with the toilet seat eek , I am now in need of a "Soft" close toilet seat.

John Lewis have a few with no comments, B&Q have 3: one with no rating, one with one star and one with 3.5 stars

Are there an PH'ers who would recommend a soft close seat for the WC?

Yes it's funny that it broke (a You've been framed moment if ever there was one), but the floods of tears from the Girl Friend (who was hurt) was not.

Over to the mighty wisdom of PH!

They are good until it decides to close when you are sitting down and the top slowly closes and taps you on the back. Thats freezing first thing in the morning.

If you've got kids they're a bit of a liability actually.
My nephews have the soft close seat at home, but I don't - cue lots of toilet seat banging down onto the bowl when they visit!!!

I got a b&q one, can't say I know the model number! It was the most expensive of the ones they had as was the most sturdy - about 30 quid.

Much better fit than the non-soft close one from John Lewis it must be said

I replaced the one supplied by Bathstore (which failed very early on) with a B&Q one, which seems just as good as the one supplied with the upstairs bathroom bought from Victoria Plumb. I know that some times the 'sheds' get looked down upon, but at least they're handy.

I bought a B&Q one, white, £30 'ish, it's been fine... it's a loo seat and does what it says on the box.

How does a person without a willy possibly get hurt when a toilet seat falls down?

Another vote for the Costco offering, the quick release system makes it easy to clean under too.

Of course it could be that she just is a bit chunky and the OP is too much of a gentleman to say my huge assed current squeeze knackered the seat mid dump...

ive got some from wickes they are great and pretty cheap. only prob is you end up slamming seats down at friends houses as you think they close on their own.

Toilet threads do bring out the worst in people. hehe

I have this unbidden image of his girlfriend on her knees washing a pair of extremely pendulous chesticles in the toilet. But I won't mention it here. nono

As an aside, we bought a soft close bog seat from B&Q, the best they had, and it works marvellously. Only problem is we tell people how to use it, so they don't try to ram it shut and bust it.....

Mind you, when we were browsing, I demonstrated to my daughter how they work, by briskly knocking the display seat down with a grin on my face....

Of course, it was busted, and slammed down loud enough to wake up half the town. My daughter nearly soiled herself. roflrofl

Absolutely this. Plus, if you have allow small children to go near it, they end up busting it so it constantly tries to close on you. Oh well, at leats it only 'softly' closes on me...

The lid was closed and she was sitting on it.

The lid broke into 3 bits with very sharp edges and points.

Some nasty cuts & tears resulted frown
