280i engine question

Hi all

I seem to be getting a lot of water out of the exhausts at the moment, it clears up after 10 mins of running but my concern is that perhaps ive got a problem with head gaskets, having said that, the fluid is coming out of both exhausts!

Just how 'wet' do the 280 engines run?

Each side of the exhaust system on my old 280 was joined together at a box above the prop shaft, any thing from each bank of cylinder would be seen at both exhaust pipes.

How much water if any does the car use?

Have you had hard exhaust valve seats fitted, the head castings are VERY thin, this will be even more noticeable if you have larger valves fitted.

Probably just condensation if you're not losing water from the header tank.

If I had an expansion tank I would be chuffed to bits!

I have lost a bit of water out of the rad recently, about 1/2 litre in around 500 miles.

hmmmmmmmmmmm, perhaps its time to have the heads off anyway as Im not sure the valve seats have been done yet and Im using additive in the petrol just in case!
