So... I'm having my mid life crisis and I want a daily driver that really performs. However, it mustn't look too ostentatious. I had settled on the Audi RS6, but a friend persuaded me to stop at the Merc dealership. I sat in the "E" series, and I felt really comfortable. The E63 also has a 0-60 of 4.5s.
So, which car should I go for? The Merc fails a bit on the "ostentatious" front, but I am getting old, and it was comfortable.
I want a reliable, practical family car that goes like stink, and is also fun to drive. I like a car that makes a good "noise".
So, I would like to use the expertise of PH to help me choose. RS6, E63, or is there something else that I should look at?

Quattroporte. Job done.
I don't think they're ostentatious personally, but compared to an E63 or RS6 they are much more "in your face".
If I was retired then I would agree. However, I need to park my daily driver outside my office. A Quattroporte just wouldn't look right. The Audi would go almost unnoticed, and the Merc wouldn't be too bad(I think). I don't think they're ostentatious personally, but compared to an E63 or RS6 they are much more "in your face".

lol, mid life crisis and you want to buy a regular looking saloon car! So, which car should I go for? The Merc fails a bit on the "ostentatious" front, but I am getting old, and it was comfortable.

Think I'd be looking at Jags myself.

Have you thought about the C63 AMG? Very nice car, looks awesome and drives superb. Plus the noise it makes is out of this world. Eats rear tires though and you can visible see the petrol gauge go down as you boot it. Still, that noise!
The RS6 is very subtle, powerfull and comfortable but its pretty boring to drive believe it or not.

Permission to wibble sir?Not sure on budget, but how about one of these, more subtle than a Masser, but more interesting than a Merc/Audi:

Fella at work has the C63. Bloody gorgeous, but sticks out like a sore thumb. (I also saw one pulling into the car park whilst I was popping into staples, had quite a shock when a sixty year old lady hopped out!)
The Jag XJSS looks so mean yet so classy, I think that would be my choice.

XFR would be high on the list for me, the only way I would consider an RS6 would be if it was a fully delimited Avant
Why would you be so concerned about 0-60 times unless its something to talk about? Most people rarely travel from 0-60 and lots of really powerful 2 wheel drive cars are rubbish to 60 compared with their in gear times.
