They have realised (as other companies are now starting to) that calling something "Eco" and doubling the price doesn't mean it sells........

It does stink of desperation. Why do all these raffles seem to use the same cheap looking website design and layouts too?

Property is nice enough, not really my thing especially at that price, but questionable legality aside I really don't see how the hell they hope to sell 150000 tickets without some seriously agressive marketing campaigns and so on. Not even endorsement from Chris Tarrant ( rofl ) can sell that, it's just a flawed concept that'll struggle to sell a few thousand tickets as far as I can see, never mind 150,000.

"Poachers Retreat", eh?

Certainly sounds like an eco hippy house.

Any idea of the location? Google Earth/Streetview? I had a quick look at the website but couldn't see anything obvious apart from a Sratford on Avon phone number.

Did the last few who tried this have any success then? I remember one on here a while back that loads of PH'ers had bought tickets for.

So they bought a run down cottage in 1998

Then spent seven years demolishing it, working "100 hours a week" and living in a caravan.

Only to then try and sell it and find the market's crashed so they can't flog it.

Sucks to be them.....

It's off a fast B-road: Clicky - north-east side of the B4090.

I heard this on a local radio station yesterday morning. Nothing in the area is worth £3m, particularly not with that little land, so their ambitions were always unrealistic. However, googling it revealed that they'd been in the press last September when they launched the auction. Oh dear, not much interest, then...

They're all a scam. Here's another:

http://www.win-free-home.com/

The accoutns can be seen here: http://www.win-free-home.com/accounts.pdf

Surprisingly he only raised £55,000.

The website apparently cost £3450!!!!

And the 'Organiser' (ie the Homeowner) took £14,160 for himself. Doesn't exactly say why but there you go.

I have to admit, I really quite like that.

Not enough to buy a ticket but it's nice all the same.

I think the second page simply shows what hasn't yet been paid, rather than contradicting the first page. Sensible lawyers didn't wait until the property sold before taking their fee for setting up the raffle.

There's also the £5k in 'Advertising / PR', I'd be interested to know exactly what advertising and PR he had. I know the local rag ran an article on the site and they didn't take too kindly when I emailed my cynicism at them printing advertisements as genuine articles.

There may have been fees for preparing the title pack etc too, and figure is bound to include VAT since the seller won't be able to recover that, although even so, it does seem expensive.

That means that:

1) the accountant hasn't checked any of the information he has been provided with;

2) the accounts haven't necessarily been prepared to any accepted standards; and

3) the accountant is not saying the accounts are true, fair or even remotely accurate.

I think it's safe to say that website didn't cost anywhere near £3500 to produce / run / etc.
