Summer Nationals
Discussion
IMO really good value entertainment. I will be there Sunday and really looking forward to it. Attendance may well be affected due to other motor sport events taking place.
However, it is difficult to engage casual spectators with what is mainly bracket racing. If the Pro-Mod and NFAA fields were larger they could be a real selling point along with Funny Bikes and Pro-Stock Bikes. SSB and SE are both great classes to add to the promotion push.
I know many posters on here are competitors and will be looking to have a go about costs, tradition and the rest of it, but, the stark reality is that the sport is starved of wider publicity and tends to look inwardly most of the time. It would be great to see the Main Event and European Finals fully sponsored, better coverage in the specialist press and on television for the whole sport etc. But for now we are where we are and with the state of the economy we will do well to consolidate our current position for the next 2 to 3 seasons.

As a habitual spectator i'll be there although the clash with MotoGP means one day this year instead of two.
I will watch Bracket Racing and appreciate it for what it entails but to the laymen the heads up classes are the draw and the wilder the better. The big disappointment to me is the loss of Top Fuel Bike. Without more events to race I wonder how long the class can survive.
Regards
Tim

Does anyone know why Top Fuel Bike are not at the Summernats?
I was wondering the same thing.I'm all for supporting and enjoying drag racing events, sportsman classes included, and have done for 30 yrs. I'm sad to see the diminished PM and NFAA fields though and the conspicuous absence of TFB. However 5 cars in each of the two main fields and Wild Bunch has me agonising over wether or not I'll be making the lone 10 hour round trip and blowing 100 spondooleys on diesel.
The National fields have been more varied and better represented in the past, am I wrong?
If I was closer for sure...

Sportsman racing is the grass roots for UK drag racers but FIA/UEM is the grass roots for a UK drag racing spectator. The National fields have been more varied and better represented in the past, am I wrong?

Whilst this is the case I think events like the Summernats will struggle for spectators, and dropping one of the nitro classes cant help either.
