im looking at a car on ebay to be used as a donor for my kit car.

its got mot, but no tax, so if i was to tax it (£205), drive it home, then cash it back in.

how much would i get back?

cheers

any complete months. If you go one day into a new month you'll lose that month's worth.

If you do exactly what you're describing it'll cost you a month, whatever that works out at

Just book it in for another MOT locally then drive it home. On the grounds that even though it has one, you want it retested "to be on the safe side".

cheers, so does that mean that, if i buy 12 months for £205.

then refund 11 months i will get? £187 back, if so thats not too bad.

also can i just take the disk into a post office to cash it in?, or has it got to be sent off and take months?

Form from the post office (I think) but you can print it from the DVLA website (or if you have a local DVLA office they will have the form).

Send it off to Swansea and wait 4 weeks - well the form says give them 4 weeks before chasing and I was a couple of days away from the 4 week limit when I was going to call them when the cheque arrived (this was last month). Took DVLA same amount of time to issue the "we note you have sold the vehicle" letter so 4 weeks seems to be the current service levels.

buy 6 months less money tied up and you have to send off for the money back iirc.

Get a mate that has a car with a tow bar and hire a trailer for the day.

It will cost you less than the tax on the car.

Don't buy 6 months you will get 5 months back at the 12 month rate not the 6 month rate.
