Spirra: Korea's First Supercar

500hp mid-engined V6 supercar on sale this summer

Yes, it's a mid-engined sports/supercar and yes, it hails form Korea. This is the Spirra, due to hit (Korean) showrooms later this summer, and it justifiably claims to be the first Korean supercar.

The most humble offering of the four-tier Spirra range uses a naturally aspirated 2.7-litre Hyundai V6 with just 175hp, but the range quickly ramps up with a lightly-turbo'd 325hp version, a 420hp version with a larger turbo, and a twin-turbo version pumping out between 450hp and 500hp.

The fastest version, says its maker, can hit 310kph (194mph) flat out and reach 62mph from rest in just 3.5secs. The most basic version is all out at 133mph, and takes 6.8secs to get to 62mph.

The chassis is a tubular spaceframe, clothed in a carbon fibre body.

It's been a long time in gestation - Proto motors first revealed its PS-II prototype as far back as 2001 - but it looks as if Korea, the world's fifth-largest car producer, now has its very own supercar.

If 6.8 seconds for the basic 175bhp is true I don't think thats bad at all! Seems would be a nice overal package if it handled well.

How much will it cost? What is exciting is whether they can offer all that performance at half the price of your average super car.

Why not? New Mclaren is heavier, but with more power/ torque, and is roughly around that time.. A certain Japanese car weighs 1700+ kg and is quicker to 60.. It's all about available traction (and a bit of gearing)!

If it handles well, not overly priced, and reliable, could be a decent shout!

It looks like another car but I can't think what, at least from the front. Anyone any ideas?

not bad, sure they looked at other sportcars, but it does not look bad, also the fastest one is also lighter...the specs look promising.

I really like the looks especially the black one at the top of the page.

No LSD in the 400bhp version tho??

And why carbon fibre, why not just ali and GRP much cheaper.

If it was £40-45k for the top spec (500bhp) I would imagine it would do ok.

Wiki Says "The Spirra Turbo costs US$95,000 and the Twin-turbo costs US$145,000 in its respective markets. The car is available in South Korea, China, Malaysia, Holland, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates"

So if it is £100k+ for the top model (unlikely given exchange rates/taxes etc) then I guess that is starting to push boundaries.

Like the looks but would prefer a Noble M12 for significantly less than the mid range version (similar engine/layout concept)and it's british.

What's with the references to "gasoline", "under-carriage" and "tires". Surely the standard press released information could be amended to reflect the publication on a UK website?

Also confused by the reference to a "normal inter-cooler" on a naturally aspirated model. confused
