Where would you start with this....

Morning PistonHeaders
I thought you might be interested to see this little beauty that I spotted last Sunday at the Bourne Motor Racing club car show... it was certainly attracting alot of attention on the day as its a huge car and a 5.5 litre straight 8!!
The car itself is a Daimler DE36 and has a very interesting history which involved it being sat on a Watford driveway for 40 years or so!!! http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/news/5002985.Chal...
I spoke to the two chaps that have bought it and they're planning on having it back on the road in three years but goodness knows where you would start! One chap is going to do the mechanicals and the other is going to try and repair/replace the ash frame but the car is starting to bend a bit in the middle so I think he's got his work cut out
The majority of the car is complete which will help alot I guess.
Luckily they already own one of the marque although there are subtle differences between the two models. Apparently when this car was sold in 1947 it was the most expensive car you could buy (I think he said £7000) which equiates to about £180k in todays money - and the first car to have electric windows
The guys have an online blog of the restoration at http://www.callowsclassics.co.uk/restoration/index... which I will be keeping an eye on. I've put some of my pictures from the show below but there are lots more on thier site
It was brilliant to a real before and after with the two cars parked together and well worth the effort of getting it down to the show - fair play to them
Cheers

Doesn't this go beyond a restoration and be ultimately a complete rebuild - what of the original car will remain?
It looks like a great plan, but at what point would something like this be a new car?
I'd expect loads of that to be present in the rebuilt car: all the body panels, engine, transmission, suspension steering components, all of the main interior bits (seat frames etc). The chassis will probably be fabricated from scratch. It looks like a great plan, but at what point would something like this be a new car?

Whoa ! MAJOR job on your hands there !! Good luck, they're lovely old things, and deserve the TLC.
Not on my hands thankfully - I'll just be an interested on looker

The guys said they are planning on bringing it to the show every year now as they had so much interest in it that day. I'll certainly be keeping an eye open for it!
I think I heard that they had bugeted about 20k to get it to the condition of thier other one and that apparently when they do come up for sale they go around ~50k. They're so rare that it's hard to price, although apparently the Queen has one!
They are lovely old cars but I couldn't get over how big it was - it is massive! It must have been a fair old sight back in the 50's... in fact I should have parked the Wolsely next to it for perspective
