Shame it's a bit short at under 100 miles but I quite fancy that. Any idea what time it starts? I couldn't see anything on their website. I take it energy food & drink are included within the entry fee.

I'm planning on doing it fixed, as it's a pretty hilly ride I think just under 100 will be a hard ride =P

Not sure about energy gels or whatever, i've never used them so it doesn't really matter to me, as long as thy have some water around i'll be happy!

That's unfortunate Stuart, what's the area like in terms of hills? Like I said I want to do it fixed but obviously if it's 93 miles of steep hills i'll take the geared bike.

The area isn't exactly mountainous, the most you'll have to contend with is the Chilterns. They could put together a reasonably dastardly route though - and it suggests 1500m of climbing on the long route, which isn't too bad.

That is the elevation map. Looking at the 93 mile route it takes in some of the Dunstable Downs and some of my route into work, this is quite steep, especially up near Wendover.

ETA: Depending how I get on on Sunday I might be up for the 50 miles double loop, which isn't too hilly.

It's not too bad. I don't know all of it but around High Wycombe / Prestwood the scenery's quite lumpy but nothing too drastic. Aylesbury / Thame is quite flat and I don't know what the eastern section of the route is like but if it goes clockwise then that's the easy bit. The route profile shows the worst climb at 62km and even that looks less than 200m.



If I do it I'll be on a geared bike with a 39 x 26 bottom gear.

Make sure you don't brake too early going in to a corner if he's behind you.

So did anybody do it then? Luckily I avoided any nasty slipstreaming moments as the guy chickened out and only did the 50 mile ride! Doing it fixed wasn't my best laid plan, I was the only fixed/ss guy there, and for good reason I eventually found out. Those descents were horrible!

He just strolled around by the start for a bit and then set off, no one was really that bothered that he was there to be honest. I guess there isn't much of an overlap between sportive riders and motorsport fans.
